Arms Act 2026
What it actually does
Repeals and replaces the Arms Act 1983, moving firearms licensing functions to a new regulator separate from Police and updating offences, while retaining the ban on most semi-automatic firearms and the firearms registry. Passed third reading on 29 July 2026 and assented on 4 August 2026.
