Sentencing (Reinstating Three Strikes) Amendment Act 2024
What it actually does
Restores a three-strikes regime for serious violent and sexual offending, repealed by the previous government in 2022: a warning at first strike, no parole at second, and the maximum penalty without parole at third, subject to sentence thresholds. Passed its third reading in December 2024 and came into force on 17 June 2025.
